In 2001, OpenmindProjects pioneered computer training tests in Thai villages to give young, poor people a chance to learn to use computers, and other subjects with the help of computers, www.ITinIsan.org. Some of our results were presented at an international conference in Bangkok and in the Bangkok Post.

In 2002, OpenmindProjects, recognized by UNESCO, starting inviting volunteers to help and to teach at its projects.

Volunteers began contacting us:

In 2004, OpenmindProjects began supporting community-based and sustainable eco- tourism projects in Laos and Thailand, designing websites and training local people, whilst simultaneously protecting nature. One result is www.trekkingcentrallaos.com, created by volunteers.

In 2005, December 26, the tsunami hit Thailand. OpenmindProjects was one of the first organizations to have volunteers helping local tsunami-hit schools and villages. Unlike many volunteer organizations which act as volunteer travel agencies, OpenmindProjects works as an NGO, an aid organization focused on education and environment, involving international volunteers.

Today, OpenmindProjects supports some 60 schools in Thailand and Laos and this year we feel ready to get involved in projects in other countries too, where we are invited to work.

Last week, Sven visited Nepal and some local Nepalese schools, Tibetan monasteries, hospitals, national parks and villages to discuss and assess what we can and should do to help.
In our next Newsletter you will be able to read more about these new projects.
