It happened at the end of last year, right after Xmas. Two bulls were fighting over the favours of the cows. One,  the young contender, the other, the 60 year old senior of the Wua Mountains. The fight of the giants lasted a considerable time and the battlefield of the two combatants stretched far into the mountain, over the rocks, in the jungle, rooting up trees to impress and deter the enemy. Falling over each other and the rocks, they were both wounded, one mortally, once the younger managed to stab the older with his sharp and lethal tusks. Walking off to a slow and painful death, park rangers later found him dead and half submerged in one of the many creeks in the mountains. In January he was brought to peace in a special funeral in Phu Wua that some of our Phu Wua volunteers had the chance to attend. The good news is 5 new elephants were born in the mountains last year!
