Volunteer holidays - Volunteer Getaways The trip started at six am with the usual confusion over arrangements and times, but by the time the sun was up we’d all made it onto the bus which Kab’s village had organized to take us to Phu Tok, Jet Sii waterfall and the very old temple. It seemed like the whole of the village was on that bus and for many it was two to a seat (which works out alright really when you consider the average size of a Thai girl).

Our first stop was Phu Tok …an impressively large rock in the middle of nowhere, with plank walkways snaking precariously around the sheer edges for the foolhardy and ill informed to ascend. There are about seven levels and you can climb as high as you want. We made it to the top…not particularly out of choice, we got kind of lost. It’s not a massively taxing climb but there’s plenty of scrambling opportunities for those who have been spending too much time on took-tooks and fancy some exercise. It can also be a little slow going at points due to the slippy, rotting pieces of wood that are the only support between you and a fatal fall. It’s all good, foolhardy fun, but remember not to be too rowdy as monks come here to meditate. Once we’d laid our feet on sturdy, solid ground again it was back on the bus and to Jet Sii waterfall. This is a great stretch of shallow fast flowing river which is packed with people enjoying themselves and relaxing. Best way to describe it is like a natural water park. I suggest that you pack a change of clothes (some shorts and a t-shirt) as Simon and I didn’t and I had a very wet journey home! You need more than just a swimming costume as everyone else is more covered up. Also a towel is vital for changing under. But once the details of clothing and changing were worked out the next hour was spent laughing, slipping and splashing in the water!!!
